Looking ahead to Fall in Engineering

March 9, 2021

To our U of T Engineering community

I wanted to check in with our students, staff and faculty as we look toward the Fall with optimism. As President Gertler shared in his latest message to the University, across our three campuses and here at U of T Engineering, we are making plans to be in-person as much as possible this Fall term.

Of course, we do not yet have all the details on what exactly this will look like come September. Safety is paramount as we plan for the return to in-person activities, following the guidance of public health agencies and governments.

Through sheer necessity, over the past year we have developed many innovations in how we teach and learn, support students and conduct research. And we’ve also made changes to our physical spaces, including new signage and barriers, increased cleaning and upgraded ventilation. Across all facets of our operations, we will certainly incorporate the best of those adaptations as we go forward.

I will continue to keep you informed as we get more information and our plans solidify. Our Undergraduate FAQ and Graduate FAQ are being updated frequently, as is the comprehensive UTogether: A Roadmap for the University of Toronto resource.

The vaccine rollout across Canada and around the world is gathering momentum, and the next few months will be vital for our collective recovery. No doubt, there will continue to be unexpected turns and challenges — but we have shown our resilience as a community. I know that many of you share my enormous enthusiasm about planning for a Fall term together in Toronto.
